Five Indispensable Beauty Tools

Rachel Weingarten, celebrity makeup artist and beauty consultant, says, “The key to looking your best all of the time is to have a few key products and beauty tools on hand-all of the time.” Here, this pro reveals the top beauty tools she can’t live without:

1. Concealer
A good concealer can be used to hide a multitude of flaws, such as a noticeable zit, dark circles or patchy lip tone. “Try to match your concealer as closely as possible to your skin tone and test near a window to mimic daytime light,” advises Weingarten.

2. A great touch-up kit
While you don’t need to lug around full sizes of the products that you use, it’s always a great idea to have a touch up kit with you to refresh your face before a night out. Look for products that do double duty, like a lip/cheek/eye cream or a two-ended product with mascara on one end and eyeliner on the other. “I recommend taking mini brushes with you, some cotton swabs dipped in eye makeup remover to freshen up a smudgy eye area, a pressed powder, a nail file and a lip gloss,” says Weingarten. “You can also save mini sizes that come in makeup bonuses to keep in your desk for day-to-night beauty in an instant.”

3. Eyeliner Brush
Applying eyeliner with a brush gives it amazing staying power. “I prefer a thin angled sable or synthetic fiber brush,” says Weingarten. Using a brush allows you to apply a smoky look and use the brush to gently smudge or blur the color, thus controlling the intensity.

4. Translucent Powder
Use translucent powder to blot the oily spots on your t-zone or to camouflage overdone makeup. Dip an eye shadow brush into loose powder, tap off and stroke over areas where there is too much makeup. Or, when you’re done applying your eye makeup, use a big fluffy brush dipped in translucent powder to sweep off the loose shadow and mascara off your cheeks.

5. Moisturizing makeup remover
In the new survey, one quarter of women report that they use regular soap to remove makeup, and 12 percent of women find that their makeup removers are drying to the skin. “It is best to get a makeup remover that leaves your face feeling clean and soft,” such as Albolene Moisturizing Cleanser, says Weingarten.
